Andi Müller: Comedown
Andi Müller: Comedown
9 June, 2011 | 5.01AMAmsterdam’s Trouw nightclub has only been running for a couple of years, but in that time it’s managed to solidify its position as one of Europe’s key venues for adventurous dance music, routinely hosting a range of DJs from Cassy to Surgeon and from DJ Harvey to Larry Heard. And, slowly but surely, Trouw is expanding its footprint far beyond its native city, advancing the Trouw aesthetic via the club’s in-house record label.
The label’s fourth release comes from newcomer Andi Müller, who first came to Trouw’s attention when Agoria closed a set with a bootleg remix Müller made of Radiohead’s “Everything in Its Right Place.” Now, the Danish producer makes his official debut with “Comedown,” a gorgeous, blissed-out synthesizer fantasia that’s all but beatless, making it a promising DJ tool as well as a killer set opener or closer. It’s been getting amazing reactions from DJs like Agoria, Peter Kruder, Appleblim, Anja Schneider, Guy J, Norman Nodge, and Hot Chip, which should say something about the breadth of its appeal.
Border Community’s Luke Abbott delivers a dreamy, downbeat remix, and Trouw’s own Nuno Dos Santos and Patrice Bäumel team up (as 360) to turn in the EP’s toughest variation.
