Audiophiles and design fanatics, rejoice: the TMA-1s are here!

The TMA-1 is a new headphone from the Danish audio and electronics manufacturer AIAIAI, developed in cooperation with Tartelet Records‘ Tomas Barfod (Tomboy, WhoMadeWho) and Fredski.

More than 25 of the world’s best DJs were involved in the development project, including Seth Troxler, Matthew Dear, Luciano, Kode 9, Michael Mayer, Erol Alkan, Flying Lotus, Pilooski, Hudson Mohawke, and DFA‘s James Murphy.

From its audio specs to its comfort to its durability, the TMA-1 has been designed explicitly with the professional DJ in mind—as well, perhaps, as astronauts in zero gravity. If it looks like something out of a sci-fi film, there’s good reason: the name TMA-1, which stands for “Tycho Magnetic Anomaly-1”, refers to the cryptic monolith in Arthur C. Clarke’s novel ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’. (Danish design firm KiBiSi conceived the TMA-1’s sleek good looks; Copenhagen’s Thank You For Clapping helped AIAIAI and Tartelet design the product development strategy.)
