Agujas

Agujas

Maxime Dangles [Kompakt]

When Kompakt [l] boss Wolfgang Voigt [a] singles one artist out of the many on his labels for special attention, as he did with France’s Maxime Dangles in a recent interview, you know it’s probably worth investigating.

‘Agujas’ clearly explains his attraction.

In classic Kompakt-esque, floor-devastating fashion, its screaming drops and pulsing monobass inhabit the higher echelons of technoid insanity in a fashion entirely befitting the label’s dancefloor-focussed remit.

Like ‘Mouth To Mouth’, ‘Screaming Hands’, and ‘Bay Of Figs’, the track is centred around a relentlessly rising lead that spirals continually higher into screeching resonance, underpinned by a pushing “ooompah” bass thrum.

It may not be particularly clever, but it’s certainly big – expect to witness it destroying a disco near you soon.

B-side ‘Love Water’, meanwhile, acts as a wistful, melodic riposte.

Taking a pinch of Detroit’s classic wistfulness and sprucing it up with a contemporary European brightness, it may not be as upfront as ‘Agujas’, but its lush charms are no less satisfying.

Apparently, Dangles is only 19 years old.

Looks like Wolfgang Voigt has a major talent on his hands.
