wears its nu-disco credentials on its sleeve.
The press release proudly boasts support from genre kings Prins Thomas & Lindstrom, who gave the title track an airing on their recent Radio1 Essential Mix, giving you some indication of the type of record we have in question here.
Aeroplane
(aka Vito De Luca and DJ Stephen) impress considerably on their debut for the imprint, blending late 1970s funk and disco influences with modern, Euro electronica touches.
The self-titled lead track ticks all the necessary cosmic boxes to carry off the kind of atmospheric and sexy mood that is intended.
There’s some serious power disco synthesizer stabs at the core of the tracks melody, which perforate the more consistent swells of white noise that lay behind them.
An intelligent use of strings raises the overall production value, blending the track’s elements together and serving as a sort of musical glue.
‘Caramellas’ is certainly on par in terms of quality, and while not too dissimilar in feel to ‘Aeroplane’, it manages to raise the intensity a notch via a circa 1990 rave piano riff.
The zombie like bass trudges purposefully throughout, while further spaced atmospherics and nagging synth lines burrow deep into the listeners’ sub-conscious.
