Maetrik [Treibstoff]
20 March, 2008 | 11.03AM- Section: Music Recommendations
Maetrik’s forceful, granular techno is usually well worth checking, so it’s good to see him back on Treibstoff for three cuts of super-dynamic dancefloor power.
All three tracks plough Maetrik’s favoured booming bass and processed vocals route from varying perspectives, with rock-solid beats, glitchy musings and ominous intonations aplenty.
The quivering drama of ‘See The Light’ achieves notably vast scales of devastation, with a straight-line bass and razor-sharp snares cutting through the heavy-handed arrangement.
Meanwhile, ‘Kamtron’ is wobblier, with flailing FX and a more languid, but no less abrasive groove.
And arguably best of all is ‘See The Light’, where Maetrik’s freaked-out vocals warp into dizzying realms, bolstered by an ever-surging groove and blaring horns.
Darkly-tinged but almost comically over-the-top, it’s the perfect example of Maetrik at his devilish, floor-slaying best.
Another bona fide banger from the Texan techno talent.
