Adultnapper’s new label to tell a story

Brooklyn-based techno DJ and producer Adultnapper [a] has come up with a genius way to get people hooked to his new record label Ransom Note [l]. Each release will have some special text embedded in the artwork, part of a manifesto that will grow with each release.

“The general theme of the label is centered upon my Adultnapper fictional character, almost in the sense of a character in a graphic novel,” said Adultnapper aka Francis Harris.

“Each release will have the manifesto on it with the names of the tracks embedded logically within the text.

“As the releases go up in catalogue number, the narrative will grow in serial fashion so if you miss a release you will miss a portion of the story.”

Like the TV series Lost or 24, if you miss an episode you won’t have a clue what the hell is going on.

“The goal will be that if you line up the first 100 releases, it will read like a short novella.

“My interest is to bring a narrative feeling to my take on modern electronic music.

“Our ultimate hope will be that Ransom Note will be a collector’s item, not just because of the music.

“It will be a reflection of an important intersection between music, art, literature, and politics.”

Adultnapper also used the opportunity to criticise dance music’s lack of innovation when it comes to covering political issues.

He said, “I think it is a bit cliché for musicians to take on a specific political perspective - how many more Martin Luther King speeches do we really need in house music?

“I am more interested in politics as is implicit in the art-form itself, as a radical response to the unacceptable conditions that we live in today.

“I think the experience of underground music can lead to a desire to want something else other than the lies and deceit that is so a part of mainstream culture.

“I guess that’s why we like dark clubs.”

The first release on Ransom Note - Adultnapper [a] ‘Maxwell’s Demon’ - will be out in July.

The dark and moody big room minimal techno track has already been picked up by the likes of Sasha, Craig Richards and Loco Dice, and Alexi Delano has also done a remix.
