ADE week: Interview with Patch Park
ADE week: Interview with Patch Park
22 October, 2008 | 1.00AMThis week, as an introduction to our featured ADE party, This Is… presents Little Mountain Rocks, we are speaking to some of the DJs who are hoping to make this a closing party to remember.
Tomorrow we will hear from Sander Kleinenberg
but today we ask Patch Park
of Little Mountain Recordings
the ADE essentials…
Please introduce yourself and your musical style...
Hey, I’m Patch Park - a DJ and musician from the Netherlands.
I think it’s difficult to really pinpoint the exact style I’m playing.
Basically, a good track is a good track, and if I like it I will play it.
If I look at Beatport, for example, I buy most of the tracks from the techno and tech house genres.
But sometimes when I check the progressive or minimal section I hear stuff that is just nailing it for me too, but someone decided to label it ‘progressive’.
It’s difficult to know where the line is because the borders are truly blurring in my opinion.
What does the ADE mean to you?
Basically, the ADE means ‘socializing’ to me.
During a regular week I spend most of my time in the studio where I also chat to a lot of friends and colleagues around the globe, some of whom I hardly see, as we all perform at various spots each weekend.
During the ADE it’s always great to see the people you talk to in person.
You know, sometimes you’ve been talking to someone via mail or iChat, but you basically have no idea what the person on the other end looks like, apart from a vague impression left by Facebook or My Space pictures.
So for me it’s always a pleasure to see the face behind the name. Sometimes people are short with words on the net, but in person they keep on cracking jokes, for example.
So it can be a nice surprise, ‘cause in your head you do at least form some sort of idea, and when you meet someone ‘live’ the first time it all comes to life.
Will you be involved in the conference side of the event?
I’m not in a panel or anything.
Last year I took place in a demo panel, which was good fun, but this year I decided to keep an open agenda so I can simply go with the flow.
You always seem to run into people you’ve always wanted to talk to, so having no obligations this year means all the more time for headhunting!
Do you have any favourite Amsterdam hotspots?
Actually I don’t have a particular hotspot now that I think of it.
The Vondelpark is nice, but I also just like walking around in the centre sometimes where it’s most busy. I get a good vibe from Amsterdam, generally.
How are you associated with Little Mountain Recordings?
A few years back I send Sander a link to a new track I wrote, and told him I got more stuff lying around if he was interested.
A few hours later he called me, and shortly after I visited them at their office.
Me and the guys from LMR had a such great connection and that vibe has always been there and I hope it lasts.
Give us a quick plug for the This Is presents Little Mountain Rocks party.
Oooh, where do I start…Deadmau5
is appearing for the first time in Holland, Rene is showcasing his forthcoming Little Mountain Rocks CD, there’s a strong line up anyhow, and furthermore, The Milkyway (Melkweg in Dutch) has such a nice vibe.
I’ll be playing in the Little Mountain Rocks room - very excited!
What’s coming up for you production-wise?
I’ve been remixing quite a lot lately, some stuff for Audio Therapy, Dieb Audio, and currently remixing Funkagenda’s & Paul Thomas’ forthcoming track on LMR.
But I’ve mainly been focusing on writing new material to be released in 2009. Some cool shizzle in the pipeline - at least I like to think so!
