ADE week: Interview with Josh Gabriel
ADE week: Interview with Josh Gabriel
21 October, 2008 | 2.26AMThis week, as an introduction to our featured ADE party - This Is… presents Little Mountain Rocks - we are speaking to some of the DJs who are hoping to make this a closing party to remember.
Later in the week we will hear from Sander Kleinenberg
and Patch Park
but in part one we chat with a recently rejuvenated Josh Gabriel
to get his opinions on the biggest weekend in the Amsterdam calendar.
Please introduce yourself and your musical style…
Hello, I’m Josh Gabriel and my musical style? Hmm...progressive-techno.
Is that a style? Techno but dubby, progressive but intense - music that goes there.
What does the ADE mean to you?
I just moved to Amsterdam so this is a special one for me.
It’s a chance to connect face-to-face with people you only speak with online and feel the life of the dance music scene.
Will you be involved in the conference side of the event?
I am on a panel with Jonas Tempel of Beatport about the future of DJ’ing.
That is on Thursday I believe.
Do you have any favourite Amsterdam hotspots?
Any cafe, sitting outside, near a canal.
How are you associated with Little Mountain Recordings?
Sander has played my music over the years and I wanted to celebrate with him.
Give us a quick plug for the Little Mountain Rocks party!
When I learned that the show was at the Melkweg I was very excited. 20 years ago I performed there with a light machine that controlled dance music.
So for me it’s coming home - that venue has a great feeling.
I’ve seen live bands as well as DJs there and I have always been happy. Plus, the lineup of music means there will be good ear candy all night long.
What’s coming up for you production-wise?
I just finished my debut artist album called ‘Eight’ that I made using eight analog synthesizers from the ‘70s and ‘80s.
The album was released October 10th on Beatport. I’ve also been working with a new female vocalist on some new tracks.
Hopefully I will get to play some at the show.
Also, we are almost finished with the Andain album.
