Adam K and Soha push deeper

The music of Canadian producers Adam K [a] and Soha [a] has been overshadowed somewhat by the unstoppable rise of fellow Toronto-based electro/progressive house star Deadmau5, yet their productions could be considered just as accomplished.

Following their hit ‘From The Speaker’ on Mark Knight’s Toolroom [l] in June 2008, the pair now return to Toolroom with ‘Questions’ EP, a record that shows the pair are beginning to explore darker territories beyond the crowd-pleasing melodic progressive house sound championed by Deadmau5 and his contemporaries.

They are pushing deeper, even.

On the EP, the Long Range Mix of ‘Choose Your Weapon’ in particular, is a clever and evolving techno beast that swaggers with confidence - it’s unafraid by the lack of a hook line, and embraces FX as its proprietary weapon.

‘Question’ too, is much more stripped back than their previous work and features a very clever stumbling bassline that keeps you guessing about where it is heading next.

Adam K and Soha haven’t quite abandoned their ingrained sound yet though as ‘Who Cares’ finds them back on familiar territory with an uplifting progressive house number.

Overall, I think the release is another string to their bow however it remains to be seen whether or not their fans will appreciate the duo’s yearning for exploration.
