Action Potential

Jus Wan [Apple Pups]

Originally from Denver Colorado, and now residing in San Francisco, Jus Wan [a] drops this deep, techno influenced, breaks driven dubstep number on Appleblim’s new imprint, Apple Pips [l].

Featured previously on Appleblims’ ‘Dubstep Allstars’ compilation on Tempa, ‘Action Potential’ follows a string of highly praised hits on the follow-up label to the now deceased Skull Disco.

With its crisp snares and resounding bass that shows that good dubstep isn’t all about the ‘wobble’, Jus Wan hits us with a deep track that has the Berlin techno aesthetic that everyone’s raving about.

Already plugged by Giles Peterson, Sinden [a], Martyn [a] and many more, this track needs to be played loud to appreciate the intricacies involved with its airy atmosphere, reverberations and charged beats.

Yet it still remains characteristically tied to its roots, and is built around a 2-step breakbeat rhythm which will prove popular for those into the likes of Martyn [a] and Ramadanman [a].

And so from the ashes rises the Phoenix that is ‘Apple Pips’, holding a beacon of hope for a new dubstep that hopefully doesn’t fall into the stereotypes held by the consensus.

With the current releases Laurie Appleblim [a] has not only succeeded in distancing himself from the trademark sound that he established with Shackleton [a], but is also starting to offer something new and bring out some variety (as well as showing his secret appreciation for Berlin techno!).
