A lost classic from MJ Cole
A lost classic from MJ Cole
16 February, 2010 | 4.27AMSometimes dance music feels like it’s moving one step forward, two steps back—or is that 2-step back?
With dubstep’s outer limits morphing into something occasionally called ‘future garage’, it feels like a 2-step revival might be on the horizon.
Right on time, MJ Cole
- an icon of late ‘90s pop/garage crossover - has just posted an unreleased remix of Wookie’s millennial classic, ‘Battle’. You can hear the whole thing, and download it for free, over at MJ Cole’s SoundCloud page.
Also just out is a new Nero remix of MJ Cole’s touchstone cut, 1998’s ‘Sincere’, which twists the airy garage ballad into a chrome-plated wobbler of gargantuan proportions.
Cole’s recent tracks (see the player below) suggest that he’s listening carefully to the latest mutations in UK funky: check out the robotic soca vibes of his ‘Noisy Neighbor Dub’ of Zed Bias’ recently revived UKG classic, ‘Neighbourhood’, or the ravey mayhem of Cole’s remix of L-Vis 1990’s ‘United Groove’ for Diplo’s Mad Decent label.
