A bit about… Biased Guy
A bit about… Biased Guy
11 May, 2009 | 3.39PMLaurent Garnier
is landing in London on May 22nd to do a show-stopping live performance which he has championed at some of the world’s biggest events like Timewarp. Now London will be getting its own taste of the pie at top venue - Matter.
Supporting the live show will be new kids on the block Biased Guy - residents of the clubbing brand Overload. Overload has been responsible for some of the capitals biggest parties over the last few months, putting on names like Stephan Bodzin
, Deepgroove
, Yousef
, Stimming and Paul Woolford at Scala and at Matter.

It can be said, with little hesitation or argument, that Laurent Garnier’s effect on UK dance music culture is unequalled. First introducing the Hacienda to Detroit techno and Chicago house, Garnier then changed the face of clubbing again with his all-night-long sessions at The End, in-between establishing himself alongside Frankie Knuckles in NYC, reinvigorating Paris clubland with his Wake Up parties at Rex Club and playing some of Ibiza’s most iconic sets on the Space terrace. Similar to his dense musical chronology, equipped with unpredictable movements around the globe, as a DJ, Garnier is equally as lively and difficult to pin down – always ready to shake things up and leave you breathless with a swift change of direction, just when you think you have him pegged.
The Laurent Garnier
live show takes the form of a six-piece band, including a horn section, which demonstrates just how rooted in live instrumentation ‘Tales of A Kleptomaniac’ is. As you’d expect from Garnier, it’s a dazzling mixtures of genres and styles, each tackled as adeptly as the other. The album is a divine collage of acid house, Detroit techno, tribal, dubstep, DnB, acid jazz and dub reggae – all illuminated with the rare flair of a true visionary. Largely eschewing the typical machinations of a DJ/producer locking himself away in a studio, Laurent Garnier will incorporate a remarkable array of live instrumentation and vocalists that will fall, quite simply, nothing short of magic.
We caught up with Biased Guy to find out their thoughts on the upcoming gig and also for them to say a little more about themselves…
1. Hey guys, why don’t you introduce yourselves and tell us where you are in the world at the moment.
“Well there’s two of us, we’re both 19 and from London and have been together for coming up to 2 years now. At the moment we’re just having a cup of tea after being in the studio all night - best remedy for no sleep!”
2. What sort of experience do you guys have… as let’s face it, it’s quite a big gig!
“Well we both started off playing separately, then met whilst supporting Claude Von Stroke at The Cross… after that we moved on to playing with guys like Eric Prydz, Marco V, Annie Mac. Loads of big names really! We got to try out the sound systems at MOS, Matter, Fabric, Turnmills… everywhere really!
After that we moved on to running our own Overload nights, supporting Bodzin, Stimming and so on… and now this. Definitely one of the biggest things we’ve ever done!”
3. Let us in a bit on the secrets you have coming up? Top tips for tunes?
“Lots of re-edits (hence the long night we’ve just had) - we feel it’s really important to have stuff that nobody else has. Nowadays it’s not just about the right promo’s as let’s face it, if you look hard enough you can get anything. The only things you can’t find are the things you do yourself!
We’ll also be testing out our new track which is just coming to a close at the moment, it’s gonna be huge :)”
4. Finally - your thoughts on Laurent Garnier?
“We used to always go and see him at The End, sweaty and packed to the rafters is the best way to describe it! He has a way with music that not many people have and it’s going to be an honour to play before him basically.”
Biased Guy will play alongside Laurent Garnier’s live show at Matter on May 22nd. For advance discount tickets head over to www.ticketweb.co.uk and use the promotional code “OVERLOAD” in the ‘Live & Club’ section.
