18 February, 2008 | 6.04PMStill riding the crest of the David Gilmour Girls album, the excellent Relish Recordings
release this EP from self defined “new wave rap” artist from Toronto.
The Don Cash
experience swings from the massive electro punk anthem of ‘Disco Wreck’ (remixed by the currently very hot Punks Jump Up
) to the unimaginative 1980s filler of ‘Hey There’.
Not even a Zongamin (best known for his remix of Seelenluft’s Manila) can save this one.
In fact, unless you drive a Nightrider car, wear shoulder pads and believe the combination of hairspray and a perm to be acceptable, you’ll probably find that ‘Hey There’ makes you feel a bit upset.
Electro punk jerker ‘Disco Wreck’, already massive on the scene, is backed up with scathing sound bytes delivered in quirky brilliance.
With lyrics like “Your lying needing sounds like a Judas Priiiiiiiiest”, it’s enough to make those random birds think twice before asking for more free drugs.
‘2K7’ is also more winner than sinner.
Retro electro big beat that sounds massive due to the simplicity of its structure and the some great “Freeze…. Rock” old school American hip hop lyrics.
To sum up, ‘Disco Wreck’ and ‘2K7’ have balls and ‘Hey There’ has less balls than an ant in sub zero temperatures.
