2008 according to…Eric Prydz
2008 according to…Eric Prydz
19 December, 2008 | 9.37AMEric Prydz’ many producer aliases have one thread that binds them all – superior sound quality.
Whether it is the epic progressive house of Pryda
, the gritty electro of Cirez D
or the catchy house of Eric Prydz
himself, all of his releases jump out of the speakers screaming professional.
With ‘Pjanoo’ topping charts, ‘Rakfunk’ doing the business in main rooms and ‘Läget?’ getting the respect of the underground, Eric Prydz’ assault on electronic music in 2008 was on all fronts, but if anything, it wasn’t surprising.

Since 2004 Prydz has topped club and pop charts worldwide and with each year that passes the story of Eric Prydz’ 12-month cyclical success moves towards inevitability, like the changing seasons.
He is the Groundhog Day of electronic music artists.
“I don’t have a process when writing music,” Prydz tells Beatportal. “It’s a different thing for every track really. I try to find sounds that fit together in the mix and in the melodies. Sometimes it’s very hooky, and sometimes its more complex.”
Regardless of the complexities of the studio process, Eric Prydz’ tracks always end up sounding perfectly simple.
The hook of ‘Pjanoo’ was so instantly recognizable that some even thought Prydz had remixed an old dance classic.
The first time you heard ‘Rakfunk’ you knew immediately what was coming next, because it was so obvious.
But only fools are unable to hold their tongues: wise men are of few words, and the hooks that Prydz produces year on year speak only of his genius.
“I think it’s a bad idea to always try and make huge records,” Eric Prydz says.
“For me, music is about having fun. A lot of people take music far to seriously.”
When asked to describe the last 12 months, Prydz responds, “2008 has been an amazing year for me. I’ve been around the globe touring and writing new music. I will remember the past year with a big smile.”
Change the date, and that quote will be fine for next year’s interview.
