20 Years of Acid House: Bomb The Bass Returns to London’s City Showcase Festival
8 May, 2008 | 8.36AM- Section: Music News
Renowned for discovering the best in new music, City Showcase has in the past showcased critically acclaimed acts like Hot Chip, Lady Sovereign, Vector Lovers and Spektrum.
Back by popular demand for a sixth consecutive year, 2008 sees the Showcase massive up the musical ante yet again by bringing us 20 years of acid house and the next generation of electronic music.
To celebrate 20 years of Acid House, one of the leading innovators from the 80’s and 90’s Acid House movement, Bomb The Bass (who also had one of the first sample based chart hits), will be making history on 4th June at London’s Astoria.
Old school legend, Tim Simenon brings on his mash up repertoire and performs his first live show in the UK for 20 years.
Tim will be joined by remixer and DJ extraordinaire, Eddy Temple-Morris (Xfm/The Remix), DJ/host and purveyor of the coolest parties in East London, Ben Osborne (Noise of Art/Les Homme Du Train) and a myriad of up and coming acts that define the eclecticism that City Showcase offers.
Names to watch out for are festival favourites, A.Human, Leeds based mutant disco outfit UR Penetrators, Parisian electro punk duo Pravda and Hungarian leftfield electronic producer Fine Cut Bodies. Finally, connecting the dots between old rave and new talent, all these acts will be playing at the Astoria where 1988’s legendary Acid House raves, The Trip, were held.
The City Showcase attracts people and artists from all over the world. For 5 days last June, hardcore music flocked to central London to witness 400 artists across all music genres perform at 35 different venues. From midday to midnight they mingled, browsed, shopped and listened to great live music.
With venues ranging from Carnaby Street’s hippest fashion boutiques to St Giles-in-the-Fields Church and The Astoria the locations for the 5 day event promise to be as diverse as its many artists. This year the electronic line up will be matched by equally impressive artists from many different genres including Rock, Urban, Singer Songwriter, Jazz, Classical, Digital Fusion, Asian and Chinese.
