1980s revival with ‘Together In Electric Dreams’

Released in the UK in September 1984, the original version of ‘Together In Electric Dreams’ by Phil Oakey of the Human League and producer Giorgio Moroder proved a major commercial success reaching the UK top three, although the yanks weren’t so quick to catch on, taking a further two years to find a home on their release schedule!

The song, the epitome of 1980s chic, ironically eclipsed the original film it was intended to promote and similarly proved to be the only hit of the brief Oakey/Moroder partnership.

Time has also seen it grow, according to Rob da Bank as, “the perfect end-of-night hands-in-the-air big-cheesy-smile class” at the Sunday Best parties his label of the same name throws.

It thus gave him the novel idea of re-recording it for a new generation to enjoy.

There are five uniquely new interpretations of said song to now savour, with our personal fav’s coming from Kylie’s latest hit-makers Kish Mauve with their Blondie-esque retooling featuring Mima.

Also up there is the guitar-strummed indie-take from Le Vicarious Bliss Pop Experience (from the Ed Banger family) featuring the magical larynx of Headbangirl and some tasty vintage drum machines.

Now all we need is ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us’ and ‘Easy Lover’ and the 1980s revival will be complete!
