16 Bit Lolitas Interview
16 Bit Lolitas Interview
7 June, 2007 | 2.00AMWith the first release from 16 Bit Lolitas’ new record label out today, Beatportal grilled the Dutch production duo about their new label Bits & Pieces
.
1. Why have you decided to set up your own label?
“We really wanted an outlet for our music where we have total control and can release the stuff we really like. The main theme is honest underground club music.
“We will try to showcase a broad range of styles ranging from warm-up tracks to peak-time tracks, some 16 Bit Lolitas
material and also some tracks from other aliases we have.”
2. But why is controlling your own releases important to you?
“We have our own sound which we have developed over the years, a sound that works well all over the world. Through these last few years we have created a lot of music, some of which has been signed to good labels, but quite a lot of music is still sitting there on the virtual shelf.
“We’ve been getting a lot of requests to release some of these tracks. So this label will be an outlet for them and will allow us to showcase some solid underground music without pretence.”
3. So you won’t be releasing other artists’ work on Bits & Pieces?
“We are planning to eventually start releasing some work from promising young producers to bring them a little more into the spotlight, but for now Bits & Pieces will cover work from us, and from our darker pseudonym Synthetic Gems.
“There are also plans to collaborate with some artists and producers we respect.”
4. As travelling DJs what style of music have you found to be the most popular on dancefloors the world over?
“Well our sound incorporates elements from house, electro, techno, trance, minimal and progressive house.
“And different places on the globe like a different balance between these elements.
“Luckily enough we have so many different tracks in different styles that we have enough music to be able to adapt to wherever we play.
“So there’s not one style of music that will score everywhere in front of every crowd, but more a soup of different styles that you have to flavour as a DJ according to where you have to perform.
“Some ingredients of that soup we will showcase on our new Bits & Pieces
label.”
The first release on Bits & Pieces is a four-tracker from 16 Bit Lolitas
themselves (check it out below).
‘Bits & Pieces Vol. 1’ features deep tech house ‘Anonymous But Hypnotic’, driving trance house ‘Good Voodoo’, and two versions of a storming progressive house track ‘Goodbye Pluto’.
