10 days of dance music in January: BPM Festival, Mexico
28 November, 2008 | 12.13PMDance festivals are doing good if they manage to keep going for two days, but The BPM Festival in Mexico thinks 10 days is more like it.
Running from January 2nd till January 11th 2009 at the stunning beachside location of Playa del Carmen, BPM’s clubbers will push on through the pain barrier with a diet of sunshine, upfront techno and summery house music. Poor them.
Considering it’s in January, there probably isn’t a dance music fan out there who doesn’t want to leg it to Mexico.
One of the organisers behind The BPM Festival is Craig Pettigrew from Toronto’s mammoth Circa nightclub, so the line-up is distinctly international.
M.A.N.D.Y., Steve Lawler, Pete Tong and Sander Kleinenberg are all earmarked to play, and those enviable happy housers Hed Kandi will close out each day of the festival (the perfect beach soundtrack is ever there was one, just check the player).
Craig Pettigrew explained the attractions of hopping it to Mexico: “The festival provides the perfect escape after the clubbing industry’s busiest season and a welcome respite from the cold. With its numerous nightclubs and beautiful pristine beaches, Playa del Carmen is the newest ‘IT’ destination for global clubbing.”
That’s probably a slight exaggeration, but it sure does sound tempting.
