Track Of The Day: Pitchben - Soda (Lorenz Rhode Remix)

Today’s track really couldn’t have a better-suited name. ”Soda” appeared in its original form late last year on Pitchslap, the debut artist album of German electro-funk obsessive Pitchben, and it deftly combined robotized grooves and pop hooks with a determined indie-dance stomp. Fast-forward to this week’s brand-new batch of remixes—including additional reworks from Jamie Lidell and Krazy Baldhead—and it’s Pitchben’s meeting of minds with fellow Deutschman Lorenz Rhode that is the pick of the litter. Rhode can regularly be found among the ranks of modern retro fetishists like Gomma Dance Tracks and Exploited, and it’s his knack for disco and filtered house that transforms ”Soda” into an effervescent, bubbly, five-and-a-half-minute sugar rush.

Skrillex, Afrojack, Benny Benassi, Moby, and tons more to play Chicago’s Spring Awakening Festival

Chicago’s place in the history books as one of the cultural and musical centers of the country should never go overlooked. But damn, does it make it easier to remember when the city presents festival lineups like the one React Presents has got planned for this year’s Spring Awakening, which hits Soldier Field on June 16th and 17th. Laidback Luke, Skrillex, Afrojack, Benny Benassi, Moby, Flux Pavilion, A-Trak, Datsik, and Dillon Francis are just a handful of the names that’ll be hitting the field that weekend. And it’s just been announced that Spring Awakening will be the first-ever festival to take place within that hallowed stadium’s confines. (Go Bears!)

A chat with deep-house producers PBR Streetgang

As so eloquently put by Martin Sheen, PBR Streetgang is a rag-tag coterie of “rock and rollers with one foot in the grave.” While the father of tiger-blood-infused Chuck Sheen was knowingly referencing the call sign of a patrol boat merrily floating its way through communist-occupied waters in Coppola’s 1979 wartime epic Apocalypse Now, “rock and rollers with one foot in the grave” still paints an accurate portrait of the Leeds-based DJ duo of Bonar Bradberry and Tom Thorpe (aka PBR Streetgang). Since their last release on Jamie Jones‘ red-hot imprint Hot Creations, and their latest on 2020Vision, At Dez, the fellas had some time to wax poetic on the early days, their production methods, and what to watch out for in 2012. Read on for more!

Track Of The Day: Joker - Skitta

If consistency were a ranked musical division, Joker would be one of the few acts capable of defending a championship belt. There are few contenders that have maintained their position with a signature style that remains equally as interesting on each new release. The Bristol producer is captain of the Kapsize label, which serves as the main vessel for producers like Ginz who have jointly designed an inspirational, trademark sound, coined as “Purple.” Each Joker release is a highly anticipated one, and even though the newly released track ”Skitta” has seen a lot of airtime as a dubplate, it’s just as ballyhooed as the next.
