‘Not Alone’ has massive suppot

Gianluca Mottahttp://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif featuring Molly with ‘Not Alone’ on We Love Muzik is a rare gem in a crowded sea of mediocrity.

Molly Bancroft is best known for her collaboration with Gabriel & Dresdenhttp://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif on ‘Tracking Down Pleasure’, and the Atlanta-based singer has already compared to Suzanne Vega and Beth Orton.

Personally, I think she has a certain Juliet-feel (as in the voice behind ‘Avalon’ in 2005).

Industry Boy’s version of SAMC

Industry Boy’s trip to the South American Music Conference started with some helpful advice from previous visitors to Buenos Aires.

The list of To Dos is short and to the point.

*Eat steak
*Go to an underground afterhours club called Cocoliche
*Meet a beautiful Argentinean girl (there are loads of them apparently)

Steak wouldn’t be a problem and Cocoliche looked like an easy one, so I put all my concentration into the final and most important task.

Interview: Argentinean techno hero Jonas Kopp

Wherever Beatportal went in Buenos Aires during the South American Music Conference, the same name kept being mentioned. Jonas Kopphttp://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif.

You want to know who’s hot in Argentinean techno? Check out Jonas Kopp (pronounced ‘h’onas).

When we caught him playing on the techno stage during the main SAMC event, he tore it up with a bleepy Adam Beyer-esque techno set that had the crowd dancing strong with its unexpected rhythms and build ups.

The anticipation he created from spinning jiggly beats and throbbing basslines was impressive.

We finally bag an interview with Jonas Kopp on our last day in Buenos Aires with the help of a translator.

Canadian Music Week: three days of bickering and snow

What a year for Canadian Music Week here in Toronto. It must have been one of the worst endings for the conference, after the city was blanketed with a ton of snow on Friday night.

This made for a brutal Saturday as it was a complete disaster for people trying to get around the city to attend various seminars and showcase concerts, and not to mention people trying to leave the city as well.

But all things considering I think there were some good discussions and presentations that took place at the Royal York Hotel this past weekend in early March.

London: What’s in store for Hercules and Love Affair

The hype surrounding DFA records latest starlets Herculeshttp://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif and Love Affair has been of almost biblical proportions!

Such has been the press then surrounding these guys that you could be forgiven for thinking that Andrew Butler was in fact the second coming of Christ.

This week finally sees the official release of their self-titled debut album.

Whilst Londoners will have to wait until June (and then only if you already have a ticket or are ridiculously well connected like yours truly) to catch the full live band doing their thing, Phonica records in Soho will be celebrating the release of what is already being called “the album of the year” by everyone from Mixmag to the Guardian, with a special in store signing and DJ set by main man Mr. Butler this Thursday.

Get there early or bring a cup to press to the front window of the shop.

Katherine Ellis teams up with Count Paris for a hit

Another month and another track emblazoned with the glass-shattering nuances of vocalist Katherine Ellishttp://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif.

Between her and Shena, they really are the contemporary UK counterparts to Jocelyn Brown and Loleatta Holloway from disco’s heyday!
