MyMy Talk about Berlin’s Creative ‘Bubble’

Nick Höppner and Lee Jones, one German native and one Londoner, along with Carsten Klemann form the trio known as MyMy.

By 2003 the trio’s music was being released on Playhouse records and was a big success in Berlin’s minimal techno scene and beyond.

To this day they continue to enjoy the creative atmosphere that Berlin’s Mitte provides them with.

In New York, the MyMy duo (who now play less often with Carsten), played an energetic expert set at Bar13.

After their set, in conversation MyMy shared their opinions on music and the Berlin scene.

Shopping at Ibiza’s Las Dalias hippy market

Last Saturday we visited Ibiza’s famous hippy market Las Dalias and discovered the meaning of personal shopping.

Not personal shopping in the shop-assistant-follows-you-around-and-licks-your-ass type of personal shopping, but shopping that was entirely a personal experience.

From the moment Beatportal walked through the opening of the Las Dalias hippy market the air was thick with the smell of fresh leather, incense and flowers.

The World’s Most Obscure Synthesiser

I’ve managed to get hold of the world’s most obscure synthesizer.

It’s safe to say that nobody else has one of these in their studios… and I’ve used it to emulate this classic Beatport track.

Beatportal Interviews Westbay’s Atlantic Connection

Atlantic Connection, aka Nathan Hayes has been residing in Los Angeles, building up and constructing his undeniably recognizable sound of hip-hop and liquid drum & bass.

Heading up the label, Westbay Recordings, Nathan has recently released his debut album, ‘Tomorrow’s Not Enough’, featuring collaborations from a wide variety of artists including Lynx and MC Tali, and even featuring a remix from LA Riots.

Trance around the world

So, it seems that wherever you are in the world this weekend, there’s a trance party nearby.

On Friday night The Love From Above event proves Berlin isn’t just for techno heads - although headliner Paul van Dyk has stated that he does play harder sets depending on the crowd.

Bar 25 documentary and new EP

It may or it may not be the last season for Berlin’s nuttiest restaurant/afterhours hang-out.

But whatever is going to happen at the end of this summer, Bar25 will live on, if only on DVD and as a record label.

Ibiza fashion: club brands

All over Ibiza, the superclubs have their own stores selling branded gear, from Pacha, to Amnesia and Space.

Whilst some of it is predictably lame, there’s some cool stuff available for the summer months that will look exclusive in your country after you return from Ibiza.

Producer Spotlight: Jaytech, Part 2

Yesterday, we kicked off our two-part Jaytech interview with a round of questions regarding his influences and studio rig.

In the second installment, we dig a lot deeper into his methods for nailing the perfect groove.

From there, we get James to give up the goods on his sleek and streamlined mixes.

Eric Prydz aka Pryda drops a bomb in Ibiza

Eden in San Antonio, Ibiza used to be a bit of a dive but whoever runs the club now has done a fantastic refurbishment job.

The sound, lighting and atmosphere in the club is currently right up there with the best venues in Ibiza and with the right DJs the club could rejuvenate San Antonio town, which has a reputation for being a drink-and-fight-all-you-want-for-5-euros British hangout.

Here’s a video I filmed of Eric Prydz aka Pryda dropping a quality electro-tech track in the main room of Eden whilst the strobes pound the dancefloor into submission.

Wild In The Country is cancelled

According to Wild in the Country’s website, “Stately Events Ltd is extremely disappointed to announce the cancellation of the Wild in the Country festival at Knebworth Park on Saturday 5th July.”

“The cancellation is due to lower than expected ticket sales and a key investor [Bjork] withdrawing at the last minute, leaving the event in an unsustainable position.”

New Prodigy ‘Breathe’ electro-tech bootleg

Eric Prydz dropped a bootleg of Prodigy’s ‘Breathe’ last Sunday at Eden superclub in Ibiza, during Pete Tong’s new Wonderland weekly.

Does revisiting it pay respect to the original or is it tantamount to sonic vandalism?

You decide, by watching the video after the jump.

Bjork and others cancel their ‘WIld in the Country’ performances

Apparently, “The show must go on” is a motto that the Wild In The Country Festival’s organizers are plenty familiar with.

Due to be the Icelandic singer’s only UK appearance this season, Bjork has canceled her headlining performance at the event, citing its organization as “volatile”.

Additionally, experimental band Battles has confirmed they have also pulled out of the festival.

World’s first ‘ecological club’ to open in London

While most of us these days do our bit to help the environment on a day-to-day basis, how many of us consider the environmental impact of our beloved nights out?

A new organization called Club4Climate have decided it’s time that clubbing went green, too, and are opening what they claim is the world’s first fully ecological night club at Surya, King’s Cross, London, on July 10th.

But have they got their priorities straight?
