Chicagoans Gus Calderone [a] and Bill Basil [a] / Billy The Kid [a]are better known as The House Moguls [a], a duo that has in recent years has created waves in the house and electro community with wildly popular bootlegs and originals. From their touches on Daft Punk’s “One More Time” (said by MSTRKRFT [a] to be “the best Daft Punk [a] remix of all time”) to Basement Jaxx’s “Rendez-Vu” and originals that have been featured everywhere from ABC’s “Ugly Betty” to Armani Exchange compilations, The House Moguls have become Chicago’s group to watch.

While the duo has been quite successful under The House Moguls [a] moniker, both Gus and Bill also pursue individual projects of their own. Gus is co-owner of Funktion Recordings [l] (with releases from Kid Crème’, Ian Carey [a], David Tort [a], Afrojack [a], Franky Rizardo [a] Gutterpunk [a] and many more) while Bill has been a Mixmaster on WBBM FM B96.3 for the past seven years. His mixshow with B96.3 is continually one of the most listened to in North America and so it’s no wonder he was also a nominee for both Emerging Artist of the Year 2006 and DJ of the Year 2004 & 2005 by Scion and Local Sound Chicago.

Together the duo has accomplished much under The House Moguls [a]. Not only was their first EP, “Get That Feelin” featured on ABC’s Ugly Betty, Armani Exchange and on XM, Sirius and Music Choice, but they’ve also released on System, Nervous, Dumb, Eden [a] Gung Ho, Funktion Recordings [l] and a host of other highly respected labels. Their songs have charted online (Beatport), in print (Nocturnal Magazine) and on radio (XM, Sirius, Z103.5 Canada, KissFM UK, Radio 1 UK, etc.). They’ve been contracted to remix Deadmau5 [a], Pimprockers[[ [[(Starkillers & Austin Leeds), and LMFAO and have gained support for their tracks from the likes of David Guetta [a], Dave Dresden [a], DJ Antoine [a], Stonebridge [a], Paul Van Dyke, Laidback Luke [a], Steve Angello [a], Roger Sanchez [a] and Erick Morillo [a] plus many more.

Now even with nearly fifty releases under their belt, The House Moguls [a] feel like they have just begun to investigate their creativity and what they have to offer house music. With countless hours in the studio producing hit after hit, it’s no wonder XM Radio’s DJ Armando has named the duo as the closest thing in the States to pushing out European-type bangers. Chicago house is adapting, and The House Moguls are at the forefront of what it means to be Chicago house music.
