Sub Swara is a live electronic crew that represents the best in lo-frequency hi-vibration culture. The Sub Swara sound is a balance of practiced musical refinement and genre bending bass weight. Built for both the dancefloor and the headspace, Sub Swara melds dubstep, dancehall, and jungle, to breakbeat, midtempo, and glitch hop, mixing it all with a global sensibility. The Sub Swara sound engages and unites across cultural and musical boundaries.
Sub Swara released their debut album, Coup d’Yah, in 2008. Two years in the making, the 12 tracks on Coup D’Yah unleash the devastating bass-weighted sound which has become the recognized trademark of the crew’s eponymous NYC club night (First Fridays at Love) and its blazing live sets. Coup spans a broad spectrum, from the dub-wise depths to dancefloor crushing bangers.
SS has carved a unique global footprint, leading with heavy ragga inflection, thick beats, wide basslines, and live organic instrumentation ranging from the drums and wind instruments of India to the marching horns of New Orleans. The album showcases the signature vocal talents of Zulu (Ghislain Poirier, DJ C), MC Coppa (Al Haca, Stereotyp) Napoleon Solo (Goonda NYC), and Sub Swara’s own rising star Juakali (Sub Swara, Kush Arora, Pinch, D1 and more).
Remixes of the album, featuring mixes by Fort Knox 5, Ghislain Poirier, DJ C, DZ, Kush Arora, Ill Gates, The Glitch Mob and many more started to release in late 2008 and will be continue through 2009 in 4-6 track volumes.
Sub Swara also ran one of New York’s most acclaimed monthly events. Doing 35 monthly events form 2006-2008, Swara ended it’s monthlies in December 0f 2008 but will be doing large scale quarterly events in New York City going forward.
