Mr. Scruff [a], aka Andy Carthy, was born in 1972 in Maccelsfield, England who now lives in Stockport.

Carthy began DJing in 1994 around the Manchester area but has now moved on to an international scale.

He studied Fine Arts at the Psalter Lane campus of Sheffield Hallam University.

He is also a cartoonist and runs the Make Us a Brew tea company.
In 2008, he teamed up with the Ninja Tune [l] label to create the new Ninja Tuna label which he runs.
