Paul van Dyk, aka Paul Matthias, was born on December 16th, 1971 in Eisenhüttenstadt, Brandenburg, Germany.

Before the Berlin Wall fell, him and his mother moved to Hamburg to live with his aunt.  Then in 1990, however, he moved back to Berlin and began to DJ.

By ’91 he played his first gig in Tresor.  After a few more shows, he teamed up with Turbine club resident DJ Kid Paul to play the Dubmission parties; the duo played as Paul vs. Paul.  This caught the attention of Cosmin Baby, so he and van Dyk paired up as the Visions of Shiva to release ‘Perfect Day’.

He left MFS Records and took the controlling share of Vandit Records in 2000.

He composed the soundtrack for the Latin film ‘Zurdo’.

In 2003, he released his ‘Reflections’ album, which received a Grammy nomination for Best Electronic Album.

He is married to Natasha van Dyk who provided the vocals for his ‘Together We Will Conquer’ track.
