Format:B, aka Franziskus Sell & Jakob Hildenbrand, are two Berlin-based producers and DJs.

At the age of 15, Jakob began playing the bass guitar and joined a hardcore-style band. Quickly, as his skill increased, he took on a liking of jazz and funk music. From there he progressed into techno and decided he would give it a shot at production. He bought some basic synth hardware and began production.

Franziskus, on the other hand, started playing piano at the age of 6. He went through phrases of nearly every musical genre until he was out at E-Werk one night in ’93 where he was introduced to electronic music. After just three years of DJing, he landed a residency at the Sub ground Lighthouse After hour, this led to even more bookings outside the club.

Both of them went on to study sound engineering in Germany which is how they crossed paths. The majority of other students were into other genres of music, so after realizing their common taste in music, the two joined forces and became Format:B [a] .
