Axwell, aka Alex Hedfors, is a producer, DJ, and label owner from Stockholm, Sweden. His passion for music started at the age of 9 when he took up playing the drums and quickly progressed into the keyboards and computer based audio software.
Axwell has produced under multiple aliases such as Quazar (of Sanxion), Mambana, OXL, Jetlag, Mahogany People, Starbech, Supermode, and Axer.
In 1999, the Stoney Boy label released his debut single ‘FunkBoy’. He used his Quazar alias to release some of his earlier acid house productions then moved on to the Mambana alias (teamed up with Isabel Fructuoso) to release a few Latin-infused house tracks in the early 2000’s. In 2002, he teamed up with fellow producer Robbie Rivera
to release ‘Burning’ on ZYX Music which would eventually land at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music/Club Play Chart in 2004. A year later his ‘Feel The Vibe’ track was re-released by Positiva.
Between producing under multiple aliases, Axwell managed to produce several remixes for internationally known pop stars such as Usher, Madanno, Nelly Furtado, Pharrell, and Faith Evans.
Later he teamed up with Steve Angello
to form the Supermode
alias and release hits ‘Smalltown Boy’ & ‘Tell Me Why’ on the Data label. He also joined forces with Eric Prydz under the Axer alias to produce the ‘123’ & ‘321’ tracks. In 2007 he paired up with yet another musician, Max’C. Together they created ‘I Found U’ which made it to the #6 spot in the UK Singles chart.
Also in 2007, Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso
came together as The Swedish House Mafia for a live set for Radio 1’s Essential Mix Ibiza at Cream Amnesia.
In mid-2008, Axwell, Bob Sinclar
, and Ron Carrol partnered up and released ‘What A Wonderful World’ on Positiva. Within a month, he was in the studio with Dirty South
and produced the hit ‘Open Your Heart’ which they signed to Axtone Records. Axtone is owned and ran by Axwell himself and home to several artists such as Dirty South, TV Rock![[a]](http://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif)
